Materials:

2 heavy duty paper plates
  Acrylic or watercolor paints, Christmas colors
  Small length gold or silver garland, or string beads
  Sparkles, sequins or other embellishments
  Stapler or glue
  Ribbon
  Marker or pen to mark plate for painting

Directions:

1.  Cut 1 plate in 1/2 horizontally 

2.  Draw a picture on the 1/2 plate with the straight side at the top  as 

well as the TOP INSIDE of the plate that is still whole.  

3.  Paint or decorate the pictures.

4.  Facing INSIDES of the half plate and the whole plate, staple or glue the two plates together, aligning the bottom as equally as possible. If glued, let dry before continuing to #5.

5.  Glue some garland or string beads to the top edge of the half plate (front of holder) and around other edges if desired.

6.  Add more embellishments as desired.

The variations to this are only limited by your imagination.  Give it a go!
